Love Love Love

Well as many singles are aware valentines day is just around the corner. If your single, like myself, then you know what i mean. We are stupped into believing a total lie, What lie? The lie that v-day (short for valentines day) is the day for love to flow through the air and lift your spirits or maybe go out on an edge for the first time and make it known to the world that you admire that perfect someone. Whether or not love is flowing through the air i guess can be debatable, but studies have shown that going out on the edge for the first time is just cheesy. Its true and the numbers dont lie abcnews did a survey on women and 62.6% agree its cheesy to go on a first date for v-day. So guys we are put in a lose lose situation on v-day. If we ask her out its cheesy and if we dont make a move, we are lame. One thing is for sure though, she will never forget that cheesy move you pulled on her, but its your job to make it worth while. So who made this hell holiday to torcher us singles and make couples empty their wallets? "...Its origins stem from fertility festivals of ancient Rome, when young women were not given candy or flowers. They were whipped with strips of animal hide because they believed that this would make them more fertile. A couple of centuries later, Christians celebrated a priest named Valentine, who secretly performed marriage ceremonies for soldiers when the emperor had forbidden it. By the 1400's Valentine's Day was firmly established in England, but the emphasis was on little rituals, such as drawing names out of a bowl, to discover the identity of one's true love."
-About.com:Mental Health

All this talk about love must being killing some singles out there so i did some research with my partners at Google and came across this singles survival kit on v-day.

1. Do not define yourself by your relationship status. Your relationship status is not your identity.

2. If you are single because of a recent loss, allow this to be a day of grieving. Do not pretend that it’s not a hard day. Get support and sympathy.

3. Realize that Valentine’s Day is a commercial holiday. It is not about love and relationships; it is about selling flowers, candy, and diamond jewelry. Think of all the money you are saving.

4. Plan well in advance to do something that will not place you in the path of billing and cooing couples. Even if you usually like dining out alone, do something else on Valentine’s Day.

5. Get together with people who do love you -- friends, family members, the people who already have relationships with you.

6. If you are single and you don’t want to be, start now to think about what is in the way of you creating the relationship you want. Find ways to work on becoming the person your dream partner would fall in love with. Start therapy. Take up yoga. Begin to volunteer. Create art. Make meaning. Act to change the world. It is into the fullest lives that love is most likely to fall.

7. If you are single and you like it, now is the time to affirm your choice. People who never marry or partner have close, loving, emotionally intimate relationships and lives worth living. Do not let a couple-driven culture define your choice as something wrong.

Hope this helps and wish everyone a Happy Valentines Day!

Pain

Pain: An unpleasant sensation that can range from mild, localized discomfort to agony. Pain has both physical and emotional components. The physical part of pain results from nerve stimulation. Pain may be contained to a discrete area, as in an injury, or it can be more diffuse, as in disorders like fibromyalgia. Pain is mediated by specific nerve fibers that carry the pain impulses to the brain where their conscious appreciation may be modified by many factors.

Pain is also a term specifically used to denote a painful uterine contraction occurring in childbirth.

The word "pain" comes from the Latin "poena" meaning a fine, a penalty.

-Comes from Medterms.com

Why am I writing about pain? Because i experienced a ton of it this past week. This post is not to scare anyone or talk anyone out of the topic being discussed which is tattoos. Thats right this week i got a tattoo on my ribs. It is 13 characters in Greek that translate into Forgiven. I was very well aware of what i was getting myself into when i went to perform this act. I honestly wanted it in the most painful place possible after all it does say forgiven. This meaning Christ forgave me for my sins and he did so buy the cross. So when i wanted the word forgiven in the most painful spot on my body, my thoughts where i wanted just a taste of what Christ went through to give me such a precious gift, that being: dying on the cross for my sins. Nevertheless i did experience such pain. Thirteen characters of Greek lettering went on some of the most sensitive spots on my body. When that tattoo artist "Larry" hit my ribs with tattoo gun (if thats the proper term) it felt like a pain that i have never felt before. You would think you would start to grow a immunity to the pain, but no. While Larry was racking my ribs the whole ribcage is vibrating in synchronization. It felt like my ribs where an orchestra and Larry was the director. This band went on for hour and they hit the high notes the whole time. By the time Larry was done at what he does best I was overjoyed that it was over and now it just feels like a sunburn. I love my tattoo and look at it everyday and thank God for sending his only son to die on the cross for our sins.

If you would like to see pics then request me on facebook if you haven't already and ill have pics of it soon.

Facts!

I am taking this bio course at eight in the morning every Tuesday and Thursday and it is just short of hell. Sorry science majors and or lovers, but i absolutely hate bio, but i love the human body, weird? No i like things more on a macro level my questions are not "Why does the ribosomes make proteins that enter in the nucleus pores to sustain our nucleus just to get sent back out of the nucleus in the form of messenger RNA and happen all over again?" No way. I like questions like "How can my breathing and stance help my back pain?" So not that bio inspired me to write this post (cause it does not inspire me the least bit) but it did get me thinking and i looked up some interesting human body facts that you may know already but hopefully not.

  1. Humans produce about 10,000 gallons of saliva in a lifetime.
  2. The human heart creates enough pressure while pumping to squirt blood 30 ft.
  3. If you are right handed you tend to chew food on the right side of your mouth and left handed left side.
  4. If you stop getting thirsty you need to drink more water for when the human body is dehydrated its thirst mechanism shuts off.
  5. Your tongue is germ free when its pink. When its white it has a thin layer of bacteria on it.
  6. The pupil of your eye expands as much as 45% when it sees something pleasing.
  7. Laughing lowers levels of stress and strengthen the immune system.
  8. The color blue has a calming effect it causes the brain to release calming hormones.
  9. When you blush so does the inside of your stomach.
  10. The sound you hear when you crack your knuckles is actually the sound of nitrogen gas bubbles bursting.
  11. It takes 20 seconds for a red blood cell to circle the whole body.
  12. Women blink nearly twice as much as men.
  13. Every 2000 frowns creates one wrinkle.
  14. You use an average 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile.
  15. 50,000 of your cells in your body will die and be replaced with new cells, all while you have been reading this sentence.
  16. There are 45 miles of nerves in your skin.
  17. Your stomach has to produce a new layer of mucus every two weeks or else it will disgust itself.
  18. The brain cannot feel pain.

Movie Critic

I am no movie critic, but i will be today. When i went home recently i saw most of the top box office movies and now i thought i would share with my readers what was good or not. In other words what to see and what to stay away from!

Avatar
3.5 out of 5
If you like sci fi, action, and smurf romance this one is for you. As for me this movie did not live up to the hype. This is a very long movie and dont fall asleep or it hard to follow, but good luck trying to stay awake. Although Avatar earned a whooping 68.4M the first weekend this movie only got its stars for special effects. We all know everyone has to see it and i agree this one is one you have to see only so you can be up with the talk around town and find out for yourself if this one is for you. Is the 3D worth it? NO!!! The extra two bucks you save from 3D go get a soda this one is longwinded. The thing about 3D is they have not perfected it. There are no arrows that come hit your face or intense sences where you feel as though your right there. Save your money, but see the movie. This type of movie is personal choice!

Sherlock Holmes
4 out of 5
This one is a must see. Robert Downey Jr. is a man of an actor and plays the role very well. With an outstanding cast and better acting this one will see you awake and thrilled. Sherlock Holmes is filled with comedy some romance and of course action. This is a puzzle that you should pay to see. Dont wait till redbox they deserve more head to your nearest theater and enjoy.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel
???
I can not review this movie i was not fortunately able to make it. If you have any comments or would like to review please do so under comments.

It's Complicated
???
I as well did not see this one, but a close reliable source confirms. STAY AWAY! Are you ready for old people getting it? No this one is not suitable for children and the cast is one that you love or hate. Not recommended for a date night.

The Blind Side
4.5 out of 5
Did you like Rudy? Remember the Titans? well then this is the movie for you. This is one for the whole family from what i can remember. I usually do not like Sandra Bullock, but she is a great job fitting the character. She was pretty, funny, and a Tennessee woman. Her husband in the movie (Tim Mcgraw) does not belong in movies, but his part was small enough that it didnt make a difference. Your going to fall in love with "Big Mike" so get ready. Also keep in mind the Quinton Aaron (Big Mike) has done very few movies, but he fit the role perfect for his story in life was just like that of the movie... somewhat. This one only gets a 4.5 and beats Sherlock Holmes because it has to do with football and it got me holding back tears. This one is a must.

Up in the Air
3 out of 5
I still have mixed feelings about this one. This one is sllllloooooooowwwww. But i was not at all mad i think i liked it. George Clooney is such a great actor and makes the movie. The girl they picked to play the co-star role fits the build, but does not at all deserve the role. Her acting was terrible and i was not beliving a minute of what she was saying. She brought the rating down alone. Things to be aware of; a great twist that in turn makes a good movie and close your eyes in one scene, but no interaction takes place. This one is a rental dont waste your money in theaters.

The Princess and the Frog
???
I refuse

Did You Hear Abour the Morgans?
???
Although i wanted to see this one i could not pull someone else along with me, but i have some reliable sources who quote is was clean, funny, and okay. Dont watch the previews it will ruin some of the movie. Since your not going to watch the previews here is a short summary of te movie: A divorced couple Sara Jessica Parker and Hugh Grant witness a murder. They are summoned to the witness protection program and forced to live together. The rest is for you to find out. Cant find a date? Call me i would love to see this one.

Invictus
2 out of 5
To start off this one is a rental, not from blockbuster they will charge you too much hit this one up at redbox and only get it for one night its not worth over a dollar. This one is slow, acting is good, and the end is what you expect. To be honest i didnt even know it was the final game in the end. The reason i gave any stars at all is i did get some butterflys and the music was amazing. Also they did a great job fitting the build of the characters. Redbox it!

Nine
???
Serioulsy?

Thats all the top box office hits and my personal opinion. Now for the video of the day and the shocker of the break. Shocker? Because i was shocked about how much i liked it.

The First Day

I am currently halfway through my first day back to class. Not only was it an eight o' clock class, but it was also biology. I hate science. Today i was reminded of how important the first day back was. So i am going to name some important steps to take on the first day. Getting up at the right time so your not stressed and rushed out is prominent. Next, for girls its picking out the right outfit, dress to impress. First impressions can be make you or break you. Now get to school ten to fifteen minutes before class depending on if you know where your going. If you know exactly where your going and happen to land a good parking spot stall in your car until five minutes prior to class. You dont want to be late or too early or the next couple steps are going to be a challenge. To go on the walk into class is crucial, not only timing, but the way you walk, how your access the room, and the most important where you pick your seat (not to mention all this must be done in 2.5 seconds or less any more time you will look dumb founded and again the next steps will be tough)! Now this is going to be a sexist post since im not a hundred percent sure how girls do the following so this is from a guys point of view. Guys when you walk in the room you want to act like you know what your doing. First make sure your walking into the right room it is absolutely embarrassing to sit in the wrong class. The first thing you look for is a cute girl to sit NEAR not next to. Sitting right next to her is coming on too strong and too fast. Girls like the chase, so pick a seat that is near her so your telling her "hey im here". Also if you pick the seat next to her you may come to find out you dont like what you got yourself into, so be careful! So if all works out your sitting in a good spot not to far and not too close to her. Now lets say another guy walks in and sits next to her that means A) He didnt read the blog and your still in B) she is taken (this could be drawn from conclusions... hopefully) or C) There friends. Most likely your still in, just play your cards right and you have a semester to do so. Dont take too long or you will be kicking yourself. Now if your like me and have my luck, you walk in the correct room, you access the room and come to find out that there is nothing that peaks your interest. At this time your seat choosing must be flawless. While accessing the room you dont want to sit too close to the professor but not too far or your out of site and mind and your brain will not function, you will choose to play tetris or text your friends and fail out and on your way back home before you know it. Ok so you have picked a general area you would like to sit now check to see if its safe. By safe i mean, what if "that girl" is late, so this is when you choose a seat that if "she" walks in late "she" will still notice you and hopefully sit near you. She will never sit next to you unless its the only seat in this case dont feel special, you where her only option. Remember girls like the game so she wont sit next to you, but there must be a game to be played. So like i said pick a seat where she will come near you. Keep in mind she is late so she is not going to walk in front or behind the entire class. So dont sit on the opposite side of the room. If you choose to sit on the opposite side you will end up loosing because she will walk in and your on the wrong side and next class rolls around and boom your on her side, in this case she knows she's got you and sometimes this can mean game over. All of that was just sitting. To move on if you get lucky and you choose the perfect seat and your comfortable then your golden. Now lets say you have second thoughts about your seat and you want to move... its too late live to try again. To wrap things up your sitting there, she is near you, its your turn to make the first move. She needs something that will stick with her on your first impression and no your cologne wont do the trick. This is where you have to step in and only a golden opportunity awaits. Dont get anxious a time will come for this situation. A good example is... class is over everyone is leaving your walking out together, so open the door for her. Now if she doesn't say anything and does not acknowledge your existence then GOOD LUCK! But if she does say a simple thank you or smiles cause she is shy then your in the pilot seat. She will know get out her phone and call her friends and say "i saw this cute guy who doesn't sit next to me but close enough and on our way out he got the door for me." Opening the door is good enough for you to stick on her mind. Be aware, i must warn you if you choose to open the door for her, you have now set the bar and you must open every door for her from now on. Play your cards right and you will be fine and wait to the opportunity's arise dont force one. The first day is always important like i said first impressions can make you or break you. Follow these steps i have listed and your golden, but thats no guarantee. Good Luck.

Giving

Well followers, viewers, listeners, stockers, and readers im back. I would like to start off my first post of the new year to say... Happy New Years! I hope everyone had a great break and i hope the best for you all in 2010. Now the boring stuff is over I would like to update you on the latest. One thing i always tell people when i refer them to TheKoryMiller.blogspot.com is that its not a twitter site, meaning i dont write about how my day is going or not going. Yes, some of my post do include just that but thats not my aim. Today that will change just for this New Years Post. I would like to fill in my readers about how great my whole Christmas break was and why it was the best. We all hear the saying or fact, that Christmas is the giving season. We all like to give, but more like to receive, everyone is guilty there. This Christmas we choose to give. Around this season a popular question to ask while making small talk is "Well what did you get for Christmas?!" and kindly with a smile on my face i would love to reply... "Nothing", but that would be a lie. I did receive gifts from extended family which i loved i thoroughly enjoyed all gift cards and money they will definitely see action. What im trying to get at is my immediate family and i choose not to exchange gifts. We also informed Santa of our wishes and he understood and skipped our house. Now instead of giving one another gifts we decided to "bless" (if thats the right word) another family in need. We found the perfect family whose mother works two and a half jobs and looks after four growing children. So on Christmas Eve the Miller Family set off to target to find the ultimate gifts for these kids. The flaw about this family and our family is they have one boy and three girls we just have three boys and four with my dad and a loving mother who doesnt buy for smaller girls all the time. So needless to say the boy got hooked up for sure and the girls... well i hope and pray they loved there gifts. Thats one thing we will never know. We would have loved to see there faces as they opened there gifts, but we were not that fortunate. Even not seeing there faces this was the best Christmas yet. I hope that we will continue this tradition and i hope if others have the opportunity to do the same. It is truly a blessing to bless. Giving is whats its all about. God bless and Merry Christmas.

P.S.- We heard there faces were overjoyed.

Should I Stay or Should I Go?!

Well this was the million dollar question last a week-a-go today. Should i stay or should i go? Thanksgiving is a time for family, food, and gatherings. I was expected to miss my first thanksgiving in 19 years. My family and i were contemplating whether i should stay in Gainesville all alone or come home for the great turkey. The main question was is it worth a 8 hour drive both ways??? After much consideration we concluded that it was very well worth it. I got to see my cousins from Ohio for the first time in 6 years which is always fun! I also again got to see those people i wanted to see and some i didnt. Im just playing it is always a great surprise running into everyone in Huntsville. It wont be long till im back for winter so if i missed you this trip ill catch you again next round. Well all this driving and all this staying up late partying lead to alot of lack of sleep. So today just moments ago im sitting in the library and i start dosing off well im sitting right next to this door that slams and i could not get to the point of a good sleep cause the door kept opening and closing. Finally i got into the rem sleep period or so i thought and then WHAM! The door slammed and i jumped. Now lets take it back just a couple minutes here while im in the period of trying to get to sleep i find different positions that are more comfortable than others i ended up with the laptop in my lap (makes since), my feet on the table, arms crossed, and sun glasses on. Yes i went all out. Well as soon as i slipped in this sleeping position and found myself in rem sleep then... WHAM!!! That door slammed and yes i jumped all my feet slipped off the table and my laptop slipping off my lap. So quickly while jumping i caught the laptop tried not to scream and had about 30 people look at me and one girl bust out laughing. Dont forget this all took place in the library. So i guess this was my punishment for staying up late. Praise Jesus.

Here is another place you may not want fall asleep.

Im in Miami Trick!

So the saying stuck in my head the entire duration of my Miami trip was im in Miami trick. This comes from a recent highly suggestive song that i dont recommend, but i could not help that i kept saying it every opportunity i got. After all how often are you in Miami?! I went there for a wedding, but that was only one night. We knocked off 3 out of the top ten things to do in Miami while there. In one weekend i ate more food than everyone in Antarctica consumes in a week! We had all of the finest Cuban and Spanish cuisine i could not tell you what they where cause i dont speak Spanish. We are in America i speak American. One thing that you must check out besides South Beach is the Everglades. It was a nice getaway and very cool to see. Kyle (my brother) got the courage to slap a wild alligator (on the tail)! We must have seen a dozen of them gators. If you get a chance take an air boat ride its a small fee of $10 and worth every penny. While in Miami i honestly thought i was in a different country. Everything was in Spanish and everyone dresses much different, lots of wealthy people, and everyone is very up-to-date on there fashion. They all dress up and go out till the early morning hours. Much sleep was lost due to the Miami trip and still have not recovered. The wedding was flawless and worth the trip. My favorite part... a man rolling cigars for tips! If you have a chance go to Jewish wedding they know how to get down with the rest of 'em. Much sleep was lost, more money was spent, and even more weight was gained, but it was all worth it. Miami... Ill be back.

Dentist

So on my last excursion home i had to attend... THE DENTIST! I hate the dentist, but i had no other choice to go, my upper third molar on the right side was killing me! Everytime i would eat or drink something cold i felt like my tooth was on fire! God forbid i chew ice during this time or i would consider pulling a "Cast Away". So i get to the dentist and they tell me nope its not a cavity its your sinus cavity! They told me everything checked out and that i need to go to the doctor. Great. But dentist are no fools they went ahead and cleaned my teeth anyways except i think i had the meanest, strongest, no mercy dental hygienist ever. It felt like a shovel went in my mouth and then they knocked some stuff around and sent me on my way. I keep hearing about this dentist on the radio where you can go to that he will sedate you so you dont feel a thing and then you can be on your way. Sounds like my kind of dentist. Its better than having a shovel in your mouth while your awake! Who enjoys the dentist anyways??? I mean you stress about it for who knows how long, then clean your own teeth ten times over, just before your appointment, as if you can trick the dentist into thinking you have been good and brushed/flossed for the past 6 months you have not seen em. Plus its just not natural, drills and jackhammers do not belong in the mouth and all the while this is taking place there are two things you dont want to hear: "Opps!" or the one most of us expect "Have you been flossing?" The funny thing is when they ask us that question we try to trick ourselves into thinking yeah, yeah i have flossed i went through a whole roll on the way over! I know a dentist and i asked him if he already knew the answer to the question he replied "of course!" so why would they ask? I couldnt tell you. Dentist are mean and they know it! The number one job with the most suicides are dentist! That is very strange and i will never know why that is (Guesses and comments are welcome!). My guess is when you do this to kids you start to feel bad after awhile...:

I cant wait till my next appointment in late spring!
